Many car shows found on our social calendars tend to be one day static display events which make for great days out but sprinkled throughout these event dates is a host of weekenders known as rod runs or other similar events with descriptive names.
One of the biggest in Victoria is the Geelong Street Rodders’ Queenscliff Rod Run and it took place last weekend in the historic seaside township of Queenscliff, located on the Bellerine Peninsula. This year saw the biggest number of registered entries in excess of 570 all keen to take in the weekends entertainment, from Friday nights beer and barbie held at the local oval conveniently flanked by the caravan park where most attendees set up camp for the weekend through to Sundays massive show n shine located by the sea in Princes Park. The small country town of Drysdale, located along the peninsula was inundated with another huge turnout of classic cars, bikes and other motorised machinery today at the Drysdale reserve for the Drysdale Classic car show! Great to see the numerous clubs including 
It’s a cool look seeing a rod or classic cruising down the highway and it’s even cooler when the fairer sex of our species is behind the wheel, wind in the hair and a pair of cool shades on! To add to the coolness, Tara has just turned 18 and, while most of her friends are hunting down the plastic fantastic for their choice of ride, it’s refreshing to see some Gen Yers still have an appreciation for the old school rides. Tara is the owner of this super cool 54 Chevy pickup built and customized by her Dad, Lindsay Trevaskis and, as she is studying journalism, I thought who better to tell the story of this ex workhorse come hot rod but the proud owner herself. Take it away Tara. 
Once again the city of Geelong came alive with the reverberations of classic engines revving up Ritchie Boulevard surrounded by the vibrant colours of a street festival in all its glory. Classic cars and bikes gleamed in the hot sun accompanied with the vibrant early fashions of this motoring antiquity. The two day event sees likeminded motor enthusiasts test their mettle against the clock as they power down the eight mile strip flanked by picturesque seaside palms and grassy banks lending themselves well to those looking for a great viewing vantage point throughout the day’s proceedings.
We all have visions don’t we? Visions of the perfect job, the perfect house or for most of us reading this mag, visions of the perfect car! But how many of us are able to turn this vision into fruition? Well, one such person who was able to accomplish this is John and his vision involved one of the classics from the United States; a 1956 Chev! But visions don’t just happen! They’re created from experiences in the field of desire as we make our way through previous visions such as a modified 1968 Toyota, Jags, Fords, a t-bucket and 34 rod John had previously owned. Not that he’s complaining about owning these cool rides but ultimately they were the stepping stones to his final dream pieced together from these experiences. 
Last weekend saw the annual Camperdown Cruise fire up once again bringing rockabilly fans from all over the country for the four day festival held at Camperdown in south west Victoria. This historic town opens its doors every year as rockabilly bands from around the world converge on the little town ready to bring a taste of the fifties back to its tree laden streets. 
Headed up to the inland city of Ballarat today for the 2nd annual GM day put on by the good folk of the Ballarat and District Early Holden Car Club. Located at the Ballarat Turf Club, it catered well for the large number of GM made vehicles that turned up. Estimations were in the order of 450 seeing many of Holden’s finest on show as well as a good array of American made GM items. The quality was high giving the punters plenty to check out while making the judges work for their keep.
Chopped. What can I say; camping for revheads? Nostalgia rodding? Big boy’s playground? They all sum up what Chopped is about. Spending a weekend camping out, catching up with mates for a good laugh, tinkering with old school rides and giving it shit wherever you can just for fun! 
For only its third show, this Show N Shine event has outdone itself seeing the Werribee Civic Centre car park and surrounding grounds filled to capacity. Raising funds for cancer and supported by the Cruzin Knights car club, it holds its own among the primary events listed on our car show calendar. With perfect weather and energetic eagerness,
