Once again Melbourne turned on the charm for the 49th Victorian Hot Rod show held at the historic Exhibition Building. Upon arrival, we were greeted with an array of beautifully presented rods lined up around the large fountain in the front garden giving those attending what they could expect to find inside. 32s, 33s and 4s just to name a few along with some cool customs and classic rides gleemed in the morning sun as we headed to the main entrance to peruse the elite rides and club displays on show in the main hall.
Catching your eye upon entering is a cool 1950s cab over that has been skilfully rodded while flanked by a flamed 32 and eye catching red custom HQ Monaro. Do you go to the left or to the right? I went right and headed down taking in the various makes and styles of rods and rides before reaching the centre of the architectural Melbourne icon. Individual displays here allows rod aficionado and enthusiasts alike to take in the high detail of the immaculate machines and their displays.
Beyond here, off to the left, right and rear lies the club displays and all their resourcefulness. Ā The Geelong Street Rodders set up the rodders house and garage with a great line up of rides while the Renegades came up with the creative Car-osel! Very clever! Another club had a barn find theme with an immaculate 57 Chev poking out one end while out the other was an unrestored example of the same model. Others were content to present their best to the doting public.
Various trade stands upstairs as well as trade stand alley kept the shoppers happy while outside was the Thunderbirds car club and the Holden versus Ford car show. If you couldnāt find something to peak your enthusiasm, you may have come to the wrong placeā¦and maybe check for a pulse!
This four day event over the Australia day long weekend is perfect for any auto enthusiast calendar so if you canāt make it this year, mark it down for next year and bring your cameraā¦ā¦or check here for all the action!
Keep on cruising,
Cheers,
Greg
