The Holden brand has long been part of the Australian scenery, it’s popularity soaring from the introduction of the first Holden, the 48-215 or more commonly known as the FX through the muscle car era of the seventies seeing the Monaros dominate on racetracks around this wide brown land and on the ever popular family Commodore and its own selection of luxury and muscle bred models.
Chrysler goes back to school in style
Chrysler is one of those car marques that never hit the top when marketing their latest models, always playing second fiddle to both Ford and GM yet when you look at the style and innovations of Chrysler and the later incorporated Dodge along with Mopar and Plymouth, one has to ask why? Their styling was out there, second to none, they innovated and incorporated luxury items into their standard models such as push button autos, plush interiors, big motors with lots of torque while also developing purpose built race cars for both strip and circuit and have only been recognised for their achievements in the automotive industry as we look back on the past! Their muscle cars are now considered very desirable as can be seen at any auction, with bids on these classic beauties hitting well above the popular favourites of Mustangs and Camaros!

Gasser mad Hi-jinx!
I was asked to go to Chopped and find something interesting that caught my eye, something that stood out! If you’re not familiar with Chopped, it’s a weekend event that attracts all your wild crazy customs, bikes and rods with a period setting of pre sixty five! Thanks for the challenge, Gav! As I perused the outspread camping grounds of tents and tow vehicles blending with custom rides and camp fires, I spotted this wild stance on a rough looking rod and went to investigate further.
This thing had no radiator, no front brakes, barely no front wheels either, no tread and no bling and gee she looked wild! Locating the owner, he informed me it’s known as a drag rod!
What’s a drag-rod I hear you ask? Read More →
February heat and the Kingpin of Kuztums!
Remember when a hot barmy night on the weekend left you with little else to do but jump in your hopped up ride, wind down the windows or pull the top back and go cruisin down Main street just to get the air circulating around you while taking in the amber lit streets of town as chrome barred classics, low riding customs and souped up rods casually ambled past you with the same intent as you, taking in the bright work and polished paint reflecting the surrounding cityscape across those vivacious metal curves in a kaleidoscope of coloured lights? We do too and Saturday night, unbeknown to Rob and Lam when setting the date was going to be one of those nights! Hot, barmy and great to be out and about! Read More →
Rodding around the Peninsula!
Many car shows found on our social calendars tend to be one day static display events which make for great days out but sprinkled throughout these event dates is a host of weekenders known as rod runs or other similar events with descriptive names.
One of the biggest in Victoria is the Geelong Street Rodders’ Queenscliff Rod Run and it took place last weekend in the historic seaside township of Queenscliff, located on the Bellerine Peninsula. This year saw the biggest number of registered entries in excess of 570 all keen to take in the weekends entertainment, from Friday nights beer and barbie held at the local oval conveniently flanked by the caravan park where most attendees set up camp for the weekend through to Sundays massive show n shine located by the sea in Princes Park. Rodding & rockabilly: two scenes blending, one place!
This year’s Australia Day celebrations were made more memorable for Australia’s hot rodding community with the celebration of the Royal Exhibition Building’s longest running exhibit, the Victorian Hot Rod Associations’ hot rod show. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Victorian Hot Rod show and was celebrated by many of Australia’s motoring enthusiasts by attending the four day event.
Once again the historic and picturesque Royal Exhibition Building located next to the leafy Carlton gardens played host to some of Australia’s top rods and rides displayed in all their glory, pristine and polished and surrounded by decorative displays and lighting. Thousands of doting fans of this popular vocation took the opportunity to spend part of their Australia Day long weekend at the show and take in the visually stimulating sights and sounds of our favourite hobby. Soft curves and hard lines!
This year saw one of the wettest starts in the Colac custom car and bike show’s 17 year history thanks to a low situated right over Colac itself! No one ordered it but it came anyway! All it achieved for the car show was a late start seeing automotive enthusiasts hold off their early morning cruise down the Princes highway for an hour or so. By 11am, the park was filling nicely.
I was shoot for a vendor this weekend so my time spent wandering amongst the cool cars and bad-ass bikes was limited but I whipped around and grabbed a few pics of what caught my eye. I’m sure I missed a few treasures buried among the leafy park-lands of the Colac Memorial square. Read More →
Mr. Willis, Fletch & Santa!!
Christmas time is always a great time to catch up with family and friends and what better way to do that than coming together with our pride and joys for a coffee and chat! In this case, it was a coffee, cheese and bacon toastie and later, a BBQ all put on by Mr. Willis cafe in the bayside suburb of Hampton in Melbourne, Victoria!
Jimmy and the team opened early as cars of all genres cruised in to take in the laid back atmosphere of the breezy sunny Sunday. Celebrity status was upon us as Fletch from Classic Restos television (Check local guides for channel and times!) was on board to find some suitable rides and drivers to converse with about their classic machines for an upcoming episode! The morning past quickly but it wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit from Santa! Cruising in a classic XP Falcon convertible, Santa, complete with shades and the full dude look, arrived in a cruisy timely manner to hand out gifts to all the kids, both big and little! Read More →
A rock n roll Christmas!
With Christmas just around the corner, tis the season to hold a Christmas party and I can’t think of anyone who would hold a better nostalgic tinsel laden celebration than Rob and Lam of Kingpin Kuztums! Anyone who has been lucky enough to have taken part in one of their rockabilly events in the past know these guys don’t do things by halves and this was no exception! No two parties are ever the same as Rob and his team likes to mix it up a bit when it comes to choosing the venues. We’ve seen everything from a mix of retail/ street party close to Melbourne’s CBD to an industrial warehouse filled with cool customs and rockin bands!
Once again Rob and Lam switched it up by choosing to hold their Christmas party in a basement of a multi-story carpark in the trendy yet artistic suburb of St. Kilda while also occupying numerous levels of the carpark for cool custom parking. The basement gave the party that underground, “too cool to be in the limelight” feel about it, giving those attending that feeling of being connected to a unique scene not known to the general public. Beach side revival (racing the clock)!
The original planners of the city of Geelong must have had fuel running through their veins when they set about creating Eastern Beach and its entry because you don’t build a 1/4 mile stretch by accident, do you?
It has long been a favourite cruise spot for the automotive fans and newly car licensees alike with its wide car park and readymade cruise lane flanking the sandy shores of this Corio Bay city. It was only a matter of time before someone got the bright idea of running automotive time trials along it! Read More →
