Kev’s Carpark family day 2013

While it was quiet start to the second annual Kev’s Carpark Family Day car and bike show held at St. Albans Football club, it wasn’t long before motoring enthusiasts came out in their droves determined not to miss out on this social gathering of automotive admirers.
Once again, Kev and Jo, along with their loyal band of helpers, were on hand to see the event run smoothly for all participating seeing families and friends alike enjoy a pleasant day out taking in a favourite past time of hanging out with our pride and joys. After all, wasn’t that what Kev’s was all about?
PSRA (Performance Street and Race Autoshow) 2013
This long weekend in June saw the inaugural opening of the Performance Street and Race Autoshow, known as PSRA, come to fruition showcasing new cars, new performance products and a fantastic array of hi-performance showcars and bikes. This will become Australia’s version of SEMA, a similar event held in the United States, and will be an annual show utilizing the facilities at the Royal Melbourne Show grounds for hopefully many years to come.
The layout showcased a mix of old school rides and equipment mixed with the latest high tech gear available for today’s modern machines which had a strong showing as well. An automotive enthusiast could purchase him or herself some serious equipment for their ride covering everything from the ground up, from the latest sticky boots, big rims, wild wrap around vinyl, performance gear from engine to differentials, interior mods including bass driven stereo systems.
Spending motivation came from the many custom and wild rides, old and new, found spread throughout the large pavilion including a good selection of the wild two wheeled varieties known to most as Harleys or “hogs”. Cars and bikes alike showcased the skills of the professionals as well as the DIYs with their polished and pristine finishes leaving many a punter heading home with reinvigorated enthusiasm and fresh ideas.
The ambience was befitting such an event with the deep base of stereos and a DJ pumping out the latest driving tunes broken up periodically by the high revving exhaust note of a performance vehicle being put through its paces on the dyno.
The three day event closed with the customary trophy presentation and thank you speeches by the organisers and promising to continue the professionally run event next year so, if you missed out on this one, check out the pics, mark it in your calendar for next year and start saving your pennies!
Keep on cruisin’
Cheers,

Kenworth Open Day
I was catching up with a friend on Saturday when he alerted me to this show. As I was already close to its location but too far from home, I headed over with the only camera I had on me which was my phone camera. Being a truck show with limited space, Kenworth didn’t see much point in making noise about it if they were going to be inundated with vehicles. I was glad I had the opportunity to capture this one and bring this short selection of pics to you.
Enjoy.
Keep on cruisin,
Greg
Keilor car and vintage bike show 2013
This time of year sees the weather turn decidedly chilly for those of us still out perusing the car show circuit and the turnout today at the Keilor car and vintage bike show proved that nothing will deter an enthusiast from what they enjoy most. The Rotary club of Keilor once again put on a spectacular event behind the Keilor hotel filling all areas quickly and by mid-morning new arrivals were lucky to find themselves a spot. The variety on show to the public was vast from all manner of Australian and American makes and models to European and Japanese rides including a great array of bikes to boot.
The popularity of this event grows every year thanks to the professionalism and expertise of the Rotary club and detailed judging done by those who are in the know. The layout lends itself well to a family friendly atmosphere with multiple areas filled with polished and pristine rides discovered around every corner. It’s great to see the regulars turn up each year while new faces and rides come to see what all the fuss is about guaranteeing their return next time too. Congratulations to those who were lucky enough to take home their respective category trophies and a big pat on the back for the organisers.
This event could well be celebrated as the grand finale of the car and bike show circuit for the season with winter around the corner and most of us set to head for hibernation, be it in the shed or catching up with family till September. Don’t fret though as we can always find something automotive related on in this state so keep an eye out for my “what’s on this weekend” listing and you’ll still get your fix somewhere!

Avalon Burnout Comp 2013
Avalon Raceway was the place to be last Saturday if you were after the tire frying action that can only be found amongst a crowd of wild paced people like the burnout bunch!
The place for pace was certainly the order of the day with many competitors hurling their tire shredding rides into the pad to impress the judges for the prize monies on offer. Plenty of local vehicles competed for the coveted awards while well-known regulars like Steve Loader, Clint Ogilvie, Steve Edsell and Paul Cook just to name a few turned up in their legendary machines to show the rubber hungry crowds what they do best.
Undeterred by threatening skies, the organisers ran the event without any major hitches seeing a trouble free run throughout the smoke filled spectacle. With the gauntlet thrown down from the start courtesy of some skilled handling from the first run participants, the rest of the field had no choice but to give it all they had and that they did. Judges had their work cut out for them marking scores on a variety of handling skills and judgement.
As the sun went down, it was up to the final fifteen to show the judges once more why they deserve to go home with the coin. The night action fired up, literally as competitor after competitor tore up the pad destroying tires and bodywork, sending up sparks from the steelbelts, flames out the oversized exhausts and fire out the back. In the end, the winners were decided and all headed off into the night planning when and where the next tire shredding event will take them.
Well done to the Drews and their hard working team for putting on a professionally run event seeing all who attended enjoy and leave without incident. Well done and I look forward to next years burnout comp.
Keep on cruising,
Cheers,
Greg

Werribee District Collectible Vehicle Club show n shine 2013
A small but impressive array of vehicles gathered today at the Mossfiel Reserve in Hoppers Crossing for the Werribee District Collectible Vehicle Club show n shine. This annual event always attracts a wide variety of motoring memorabilia covering many genres from your tough street rods, Aussie and American muscle cars through to an eclectic assortment of vintage European and home grown rides just to name a few. The laid back approach to today’s event was just the tonic for a Sunday stroll around our favourite vocation while catch up with old friends and meeting new ones with likeminded interests. It is always a guarantee at these locally run shows and any excuse to get the pride and joy out too!
With fantastic weather, a bucking bronco, a handful of trade stands and Fletch from Classic Restos, the show was complete and catered well for the perusing admirers. Trophy time saw the judges hard work done and all that remained was a casual cruise home and a check of the calendar for what’s on next! If you’re not sure what’s coming up next weekend or in the future, why not drop me an email and I can add you to my “what’s on this weekend mailing list” where you will be kept up to date each week with what shows and swap meets can be found in Victoria.
Keep on cruising,

Westfad car show 2013
Today I decided to venture off to a show I knew little about and as this show was only in its second year of running, it is understandable. A great local event located at Bunnings Warehouse in Caroline Springs, West side of Melbourne, this car and bike show brought out the quality of rides normally reserved for much bigger events. The variety of vehicles on show covered many genres giving punters a great in vision into what the automotive scene is about.
With all proceeds going to Westfad, a joint venture between the Deer Park and Sunshine Lions clubs to be distributed to the needy, car and bike enthusiasts alike are more than happy to throw their weight behind such a charity if it’s an excuse to get their pride and joy out for the day! The high temperature couldn’t keep them away and the reserved section of the parking lot quickly filled up.
This is to become an annual event and, with the continued support of Bunnings and fantastic organising skills of Westfad, Bunnings may have to give up more of their carpark for future events! So if you’re looking to feel good about helping charity while needing an excuse to get your pride and joy out, mark this one down in your calendar and we’ll see you there next year!
Keep on cruising!

Geelong All Holden Day 2013
Over 600 cars of the Holden variety and other GM related products converged on the Geelong showgrounds for a glorious day of show n shine. Put on by the FX-HZ Holden car club, the well-executed event went off without a hitch seeing many owners and punters enjoy a stroll among the many varied Aussie marques from classic original to wild custom! All models were well represented showing what they looked like off the production line to what can be done to them with a little imagination and a lot of elbow grease.
Fletch from Classic Restos was on hand to record the day’s events in his own entertaining style while tunes and announcements came from the dulcet tones of Pinky. Food stands were a plenty while eager enthusiasts could shop up at the numerous trade stands found throughout the grounds.
It was great to catch up with the many friends and fellow enthusiasts I’ve met over the years attending and photographing these events while also meeting new supporters of this vocation as well. The number of images I have here is only a snap shot of what could be seen so if you want to take the whole scene in and have not attended this one, next year should be even bigger so come on down and join in the relaxed atmosphere surrounded by your favourite element.
Keep on cruisin’
Cheers,
Greg
