Have you ever wondered why some muscle cars have extra names and what they mean? What about “Yenko”? Well here’s a quick run down!
Pennsylvaniacar dealer, Don Yenko is the Chevy fan’s version of Ford’s Carroll Shelby but by no means takes a back seat to him!
In 1965, Yenko, a racer by name and nature, initially completed the mods and engine transplants to various Chevrolet models himself without the support of Chevrolet, but in 1969, the GM brand could see where there was money to be made and agreed to factory build a batch of Camaros fitted with 427c.i. Corvette engines and supply warrantees with them!
The Corvette engines were toughened up using iron blocks, iron heads and solid lifters seeing the motor give out a healthy 450HP. Cowl induction bonnets were added along with Z28 suspension and Posi rear ends. Chevrolet wouldn’t badge the muscle cars so Yenko took it upon himself to do it and created the SYC (Yenko Super Car) insignia and striping and made available other options such as mags, gauges, headers and other items.
This beautiful Yenko equipped Camaro is owned by Chris who has owned it for over two years after purchasing it from theUnited States. He had it professionally restored by a company inAmericawhich Chris had previously dealt with, giving him reassurance that he would get a quality finish.
The eye catching paint colour is Hugger Orange complimenting the “optional from dealer” white interior. Power comes in the form of a tough 427 c.i. Chev feeding through a 5 speed manual box down to the traditional12 bolt rear end. If 427 cubes isn’t enough to get your juices going, the recently rebuilt donks been helped out by an 850 CFM double pumper, MSD ignition with the spent gases exiting through Jet Hot extractors.
For Chris, there are no plans on selling this one as it is the perfect partner for his other ride, an SS RS Camaro. It must come down to a toss of a coin as to which one he takes out for the day!
