On our travels, we stopped into the 401K club in Anaheim, CA to check out their work and, as it was an open day, there was a car show to check out as an added bonus! The 401K club is a hot rod shop catering for all facets of rod construction from custom body and chassis fabrications, custom paint and vinyl graphics through to electrical wiring, collision repairs and maintenance of your pride and joy.
Once entering into the shop, you are greeted by an array of under construction rides from bare metal beasts to nearly completed customs. We checked out a Chevy pickup with some cool custom mods from frenched headlights and shaved handles through to the custom rear roll pan. The visor was a work of art while those fat tyres will add a menacing presence on the street for anyone travelling behind. Another great custom was the 1969 Camaro wagon apply named the Fast on Wheels Camaro Wagon. This machine will be a one off, giving the automotive public an idea of how one of these muscle cars might have looked if GM decided to produce their own.
Over in the back corner rests an almost completed 1956 F100 with an eye catching paint scheme and late model wheels. All that’s required is an interior and this clean machine will be seen cruising the strip.
For those of us with a curious nature, we poked our head around the plastic sheeting to discover another major project under construction. It’s a 66 Corvette Stingray convertible receiving a major heart transplant and some hip modifications to accept those massive tyres designed to put all that power to the ground while giving the 60s muscle car a low tough stance. This will be one to keep an eye out for when it hits the streets!
The basis behind this shop is to be more than just another rod shop but to be a club where like-minded people can come and chew the fat over their favourite subject of rods and custom building while taking in the ambiance of a working garage and all its visual nuances.
We headed back outside, grabbed a free hamburger and drink thanks to the team at 401K and checked out the variety of rides parked in the car park among the overhanging palm trees. The relaxed atmosphere, sunny weather and casual conversations allows one to feel comfortable in their surroundings while perusing the open bonnets and wound down compartments. The K401 club have regular open days and if you’re looking for a casual afternoon taking in your favourite hobby and are in the area, the guys and girls of the rod shop will be more than happy to show you around.
Keep on cruising’
Cheers,
Greg
