Cruising into Queenscliff on Friday afternoon, one got the sense that this was going to be one of those weekends to remember going by the amount of cool rods, customs and classics cruising around! As I pulled into the sports oval, I was greeted by the colourful sight of mish-mashed rows of old school cool mixed with street elite! This was definitely the start of another huge annual Geelong Street Rodders’ Queenscliff Rod Run! with over 600 entries booked in, it could be nothing less than spectacular!
Beer and a barbie traditionally fires up the weekend as it makes for a great opportunity to meet and greet while also collecting your goodies bag from the temporary event central.
Saturday’s entertainment covers all aspects of fun from fun park water activities through to air conditioned club house meals and entertainment! This year saw a live band covering all the classics complimented by a fashion show from one of the local traders.
Saturday night sees the historic main street of Queenscliff turn into a cool cruise scene for all entrants and their rides. Spectators line the strip from end to end while also taking in the local hospitality from shops through to bars and clubs. Once again, Rosie & The Mighty Kings were main street central adding to the overall atmosphere that goes with the cruise scene we love to be a part of!
Sunday’s show n shine was a colourful affair as can be expected with so much polish and paint to take in. The Queenscliff foreshore was a hive of activity as entrants took the time to take in the trade stands while locals and car fanatics alike cruised on down to check out the automotive spectacular while taking in the rocking great music from Rosie & The Mighty Kings!
The afternoon saw the traditional trophy presentation as well as a well packaged raffle draw which included a full ride on lawn mower among other great ticket offerings!
We must put our hands together for the Geelong Street Rodders and in particular, the Queenscliff Rod Run Committee for putting together such a smooth running, action packed event that leaves attendees baying for more and vowing to return next year!
