Waltzing Matilda Hotel in Springvale was the latest ALH venue to host Rats, Tatts n Pinups and their five band line up. Located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, the venue’s large parking area filled up very quickly with the usual array of old school eclectic rods n rides as well as a good gathering of custom and classic bikes!
The carnival rides and side show vans kept the kids entertained in its own corral while the hustle and bustle of the trade stands in the bistro area added a lively atmosphere to the large open spaces. Phat Ink tattoo along with Chrisoula Angelopoulou were on hand to ink their artistic style while those artistic young guns with their paint and air brushes, the fabulous five showcased their offbeat artist abilities on all manner of mediums!
As always expected from any event run by Rob and the team of Kingpin Kuztum, you could always find a hot cup of joe and a friendly smile from the girls in the Betty & Ruby coffee van, a sausage or burger from the outside kitchen ran by the hosting ALH venue or an ice cream or doughnut from one of the outside food stands. Hair and make up by The Blend Bettyz and blokes cuts by Northern Barber Shop. As always, Rob looks to throw in something new at most of his events and this time we had a few demolition derby girls cruising around promoting their sport and adding to the car park spectacle! Mothers, the home of top car care products, also rewards the other car park spectacles with crystal trophies, rewarding those machines that grab our attention from afar seeing us B line for a closer look!
The underground function room ran hot all night thanks to an awesome five band line up consisting of the Ezra Lee Show, Rod Paine & the Full Time Lovers, Itchy Fingers, The Strays with the Straight 8s closing out the show! It was an especially big night for Dizzy and the boys as The Strays launched their latest CD, This Is The Strays and did it in full rockabilly tradition by playing it loud and brash, shaking the very foundations of this previously popular Lasers night club now function room.
Once again, hats off to the organisers of Rats, Tatts n Pinups and to this growing community of loyal rockabilly fans for putting on and contributing to a fun fanatic past time that continues to thrive with each new event! It’s always great to be able to attend the next event and catch up with fellow fans and now friends! They might look hard and fast on the outside but they’re very warm and welcoming on the inside! (Don’t tell ‘em I said that!)
All funds raised go to Beyond Blue to help find a cure for this disease.
