Fathers Day in the park!

What better place could a dad be on Fathers Day than down in St. Kilda at The Greatest Show On Wheels! One didn’t have to be interested in the automotive world to appreciate the fantastic scene that beheld them as they approached O’Donnell park located next to the iconic Luna Park!

ShowcarsMelbourne in conjunction with The Acland Street Traders have now established a mainstay event for Melbourne and in particular, St. Kilda seeing over 30,000 people and over 420 vehicles of all styles and ages take part in this annual event in only its third year!

Elvis, owner of the automotive event planning business, ShowcarsMelbourne and his team of loyal supporters once again put on a phenomenal car cultured festival covering the luscious lawns of O’Donnell park, the whole of Shakespeare St including the adjoining car park while also introducing a new attraction, the movie car gathering in front of the wide open grin of the Luna Park entrance!

Live music from The Cadillac Drifters and Rosie & The Mighty Kings resonated throughout the show and into the adjoining shops and eateries adding the energetic atmosphere even encouraging the rock and rollers to strut their stuff to the adoring crowd!

Trade stands catered for the automotive wares while children entertainers kept the littlies amused before they headed off with dad to ride the rides of Luna Park while mum spent some time and money down Acland Street!

The closing of this automotive spectacular is always preceded by the big raffle draw and the trophy presentation of the sponsor’s choice awards to the top twenty five vehicles chosen on the day!

If you plan on spending Fathers Day here next year and want to bring up the family in your pride and joy, I strongly recommend heading up early as the parking filled up fast with more than fifty vehicles having to be turned away due to a lack of space! When it’s full, it’s full and over 420 vehicles is nothing be sneezed at!
