What’s a car enthusiast to do on a Sunday in the middle of winter and they live in one of the worlds’ most attractive coastal regions?!
Pack the family into the rod, custom or classic and go for a cruise around the coast! Even better when you’re cruising in amongst a veritable smorgasbord of cool rods and rides which is why the Geelong Street Rodders’ annual Koastal Kruise grows in statue each year!
The GSR’s 22nd Koastal Kruise took place on the last Sunday of July with an impressive 131 rods, customs and classics turning up to the Grovedale Hotel on a fresh but sunny morning, eager to take in the sights and sounds of this cruising scene complimented by the sprawling landscape of Victoria’s picturesque peninsular!
We arrived around 10am to a hive of activity at the Grovie Hotel, parked the 59 Impala and headed off to grab a coffee and peruse through the mass of cool rides filling the parking area. After catching up with friends and taking a bunch of pics, we all headed off to our first destination point, the Point Lonsdale carpark overlooking the cliffs of the coast.
After a stretch of the legs and catching up with other cruise enthusiasts, we all convoyed out of the point making our way to our lunch destination at the St. Leonards Hotel. Thanks to the assistance of the Geelong Street Rodders’ club members marshalling the various intersections and roundabouts along the way, no one got lost and all arrived in good time for a pub meal or a free BBQ put on by the club.
With the numerous shaded tables spread throughout the large beer garden filled with casual cruisers, we allowed the relaxed atmosphere of the event to wash over us as we chilled out with a beverage, a chin-wag and in no rush to head for home and back to daily life.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Geelong Street Rodders and especially those who take time out of their own busy lives to organise such an event which, being the 22nd year it’s run, shows that all the details of the run and those who participate are well looked after including catering for lunch at no cost to the attendees!
Well done and looking forward to attending more of their club run events!
