St. Kilda in itself is a stand-alone tourist attraction. With its beautiful beach and stunning esplanade bringing together two major St. Kilda shopping strips of Fitzroy St and Acland St complimented by an array of bars and eateries drawing together the quirky and the eclectic mixed with Melbourne’s reknowned fashion and style. Most weekends, it’s the place to be! It’s alive, it’s the vibe, and the hum of the trams mixed with the thrills and shrills of Luna Park’s visitors riding the attractions.

Father’s Day this year brought a new thrill to St. Kilda by filling Acland St and surrounding lanes and car parks with the vibrant colours and shiny chrome of all things automotive! With the street blocked off to normal passenger motivation, Elvis and his team from ShowcarsMelbourne set about filling the street with some of Melbourne’s best custom rides accompanied by a cacophony of custom bikes, drag cars, cool classics through to your modified modern rides. By 11am the street were full as local residence took in the scene not seen in their bustling byways before! The vehicle owners took the opportunity to take in the sites of St.Kilda with their families heading to Luna Park for the thrills or peruse throughout the various shops generally unique to the characteristic strip.

The three piece rock band belted out the covers adding to the overall ambience of the vibrant scene as Sunday morning strollers took in rows of gleaming chrome and brilliant paint schemes. Buskers performed in the streets and parks as patrons filled the sidewalk diners for a late breaky or morning tea spilling over into lunch and afternoon tea. Mid-afternoon saw the obligatory trophy announcement as car owners came up to collect their prize and posed without hesitation with the beautiful ShowcarMelbourne girls! These guys are normally camera shy!!

All in all, it was a glowing success for the Acland Street traders, local residence and car/ bike owners alike! We hung around for a wind-down meal afterwards and left the strip at 7:30pm with the place still a buzz!
